Here's to a Year!
Okay you guys, Sylvie's first birthday has come and gone and seriously, the whole ordeal leaves me with one overwhelming feeling: we did it! We made it! It's no secret that Sylvie's arrival was a "hard left" for our family, and to be honest it was the thought of getting through this first year that had me the most worried. If you or someone you know has ever had a baby then you know how hard the first year is. Sleep training. Breastfeeding. Healing. PPD. All of motherhood is hard in my opinion, but it's that first year that brings you to the edge of yourself physically and mentally. And with a busy family that was always on the go, the thought of going through that again had me terrified. But the fact that I'm sitting here today one year later as living proof of coming out on the other side alive makes me feel like this birthday was somewhat of a monumental day for our family. We did it! And reflecting over this whole ordeal makes me realize what a sweet sort of angel Sylvie was for our family. She brought us together. She took a mom who did it all (and more....too much more) for her family and grounded her. She took a young brother who had a hard time dealing with and expressing his emotions, and softened his heart. She took a spunky sister who was sprinting toward her teenage years at too fast of a pace and slowed her down keeping one foot still in her innocent childhood. She took a daddy who wasn't ready to say goodbye to the early years and gifted him with more sweet time at home. She took one crazy family and drew us all together in a perfectly beautiful way. In the way we all desperately needed and didn't even know. So to celebrate we took the theme of such a wonderful year and threw it into a "One-Deer-Ful" themed birthday party. And we stuffed our bellies. And played together. And danced. And filled our hearts even more with wonderful family time. And I can't think of a more perfect symbol of Sylvie and what she's already done for our family. Check it out:
